Off-duty policeman road crash victim
AN OFF-DUTY police officer has been identified as the motorcyclist who died after his machine crashed into the rear of a truck on the Blue Mountains yesterday (Thursday), police say.
Sergeant Brian Kenny, 63, of Kings Cross Local Area Command, died on the Great Western Highway at Wentworth Falls about 8:40am.
The 47-year-old truck driver was not injured.
He was taken to Katoomba Hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Kings Cross Commander, Superintendent Sue Waites, says Sergeant Kenny, known to all as BJ, joined the New South Wales Police Force in 1968 as a 20-year-old and began working in the Darlinghurst area in 1984.
“He was working as an operational team leader at Kings Cross and BJ was a very proud police officer who loved working in a team environment,” Superintendent Waites says in a statement.
“He will be dearly missed by all of the staff past and present that have had the pleasure of working with a gentleman of his calibre – he was our hero.
“The junior officers who have passed through Kings Cross are all the better today for having worked with BJ.” |
