Surprise candidate
for Cowra Council
FORMER deputy mayor Ruth Fagan (right) will stand for election to Cowra Shire Council in September.
Ms Fagan will join Bruce Miller, Judi Smith, Ian Brown and Jack Mallon who also have publically indicated their intention to stand in the election.
Ms Fagan served on the previous council between 2004 and 2008, including a 12-month period as deputy mayor.
Ms Fagan says she is standing because she believes she has the “enthusiasm, innovative ideas and experience which I believe can benefit the community”.
“A strong community, with an excellent plan for the future, taking on modern ideas and confident in making changes will attract people, new businesses and thrive in regional NSW,” she says in a statement.
Referring to her past term on council she says she was involved in a number of initiatives including the sewerage treatment works, the emergency water supply, the Peace Park Precinct, the Darbys Falls water treatment plant and the Local Environmental Plan (LEP).
“I would like to see these finalised and other new projects started,” Ms Fagan says.
Nominations open today, Monday July 30, and until 12-noon on Wednersday, August 8.
Nomination forms can be obtained [HERE] and must be lodged either at Cowra Shire Council or with the Returning Officer at the Young Town Hall.
