Illegal firewood harvesting – man charged
POLICE have charged a man with unlawfully harvesting firewood from national parks and state forests in the Deniliquin area.
Some 200 standing trees were identified as having been illegally felled for firewood between April and July this year, police say.
Rural Crime Investigators from Deniliquin Police and the National Parks and Wildlife Service officers launched an extensive investigation.
Police on Thursday arrested a 29-year-old Deniliquin man and charged him with two counts of damage/remove vegetation and one count of unlawfully clear, dig up or cultivate on public land.
He was granted conditional bail and will appear before Deniliquin Local Court later this month. |
